Megastore... No More

We knew the iconic Virgin Megastore in Times Square was on its way out, but now we've got a date for the goodbye party. The store closes on the 1st of April.

Another victim of the ailing economy. Dang.

EYES WIDE SHUT from The library of my soul, United Kingdom

A similar scene cane globally be seen. We are losing stores in the UK that have been established for decades, centuries even. Such a sad sight and there will be no let up in the forthcoming months, possibly even years. I think soon we will be a nation of baron shopping malls and pound shops

@EYES WIDE SHUT: Agree. It's really sad. The emergence of online commerce and the recession are combining to form the death of retail businesses. It's kinda sad to see giants such as this fall.

well, the ailing economy and a rapidly shifting marketplace. who buys records/cds anymore? the market dried up, and with it went a whole host of stores that serviced that market...

@paulski: seems like a continued decline of music-as-culture to music-as-download. and it's somehow sad when you'd think of it.
